At-home piano lessons for expat children

Start with a trial lesson or choose 4 discounted introductory lessons!

Children can begin piano lessons from around the age of 6. Depending on age and experience, we’ll start by exploring the keyboard and learning familiar children’s songs, pop tunes, and/or classical pieces. Basic scales and music theory are introduced in a playful and engaging way.

Children will also learn how chords are built and how to use them to play the songs they want to learn – or to accompany themselves while singing at the piano.

More and more children are learning to play by ear and from memory – often even creating their own melodies! This is a powerful way to learn music “from the inside out.”

So, are you (or your child) excited to learn to play piano by ear and from within – alongside reading sheet music?

🎹 Piano Lessons for Adults

Because many adults have busy schedules and may not be able to commit to long-term lessons right away, I offer a set of 4 introductory piano lessons. These lessons also make a fun and original birthday gift!

What would you like to learn to play? That could be pop music (current hits, or something by The Beatles, ABBA, etc.), light classical pieces, or film music (like Einaudi, Yann Tiersen or Joep Beving).
Even if you’re completely new to the piano, we can start right away with songs you love and want to play.

In challenging times – or if you’re dealing with stress-related issues – playing the piano can be a wonderful way to unwind. It’s more than a hobby: it can offer relaxation, focus, and a sense of stability.
You can learn in a traditional way with sheet music, or by playing by ear, from the inside out – whatever suits you best.

👉 Also see the positive effects of learning to play piano as part of coaching, or read more about music therapy.
A free trial session (coaching combined with piano playing) is available for those dealing with stress or burnout.

Adult Student Experiences

“Hi Ingmar! I recognize your passion — that’s what we need in life, and definitely what our children need too!”
Dorine, X-Factor

“Really fun lessons — I look forward to them every week. If I want to play a certain song, the sheet music somehow appears! And if I don’t like a piece, I don’t have to play it.”
Patrick

“I learned a lot from Ingmar. The lessons were always relaxed and enjoyable. Every time, he came up with just the right exercises to keep things fun and help me progress. Highly recommended!”
Best, Johan

Lesson Times & Guidelines

Private lessons are usually weekly, but every other week is also possible.
Lessons are available Monday to Friday between 10:00 and 21:30, and weekends by arrangement.

Lesson duration ranges from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours, depending on the number of students per household.
A 30-minute lesson is possible in consultation (due to travel time/costs).

Lessons start from Delft; travel to areas like Rotterdam may involve more time and cost.

Payment is made monthly via Tikkie (payment link) or in cash.

Cancellations & Holidays

Outside of official school holidays, missed lessons are the student’s responsibility, unless the lesson can be rescheduled within the same week.

If you plan to stop lessons after summer break, please let me know by early June, as there is a 1-month notice period. Otherwise, I assume lessons will continue in September.

Regarding school holidays:
We generally follow the local school holiday schedule, which already includes many breaks. I charge for only one week during the May holiday, as officially recognized.
During the summer break, lessons may continue by mutual agreement — a great way to maintain continuity with piano playing.
